As part of strengthening its position in Finland, MEKO is modernizing its central warehouse in Helsinki with new technology and automated inventory management. The renovated warehouse will enhance the efficiency of operations, lead to improved service, and result in sustainably lower costs. The facility is planned to be fully operational in the first half of 2025.
MEKO is the market leader in the independent automotive aftermarket in Finland through the wholesale company Koivunen and its branch and workshop concept Fixus, Finland's most renowned brand for independent workshops. In addition MEKO operates the concepts Mekonomen, MECA Truck and ToolPack. Koivunen was acquired in 2022 with the aim of strengthening MEKO's position and extracting synergies with the existing operations in Mekonomen Finland.
By investing in automation, the coordination strategy is completed while significantly streamlining the order and inventory management for the Finnish market.
"This means that we strengthen our position in Finland. We will handle larger volumes of goods in less time, which leads to better service with faster deliveries to our customers. Financially, the investment will significantly reduce operating costs when the renewed warehouse becomes operational, aligning with our focused efforts to create a stronger and more profitable MEKO," says Pehr Oscarson, President and CEO of MEKO.
The renovation work starts in 2024, and the renewed facility is expected to be in full operation in the first half of 2025. The investment is not anticipated to affect MEKO's cash flow or results in 2024.
The investment signifies that by 2025, MEKO will have established three new high-tech central warehouses in the Nordics to enhance service and increase efficiency. A new, automated logistics center is under construction in Odense, Denmark, and a similar project is underway in Oslo, Norway. MEKO already operates an automated warehouse in Strängnäs, Sweden.
